Wisdom of the ages, it never gets old

I’m always trying to improve myself for the better, in my relations with family and friends, in work life, and personally as a human being. It’s day 10 of reverb10, still going strong.

Wisdom. What was the wisest decision you made this year, and how did it play out?

For those who know me well, you know that I like planning things ahead of time, so that I can prepare and make things great. Well this year, I’ve still continued my “planned” streak, but I’ve also become a little more spontaneous and learned to live for the moment.

A few weekends ago through sheer luck and coincidence, I found out ( through Facebook) that a childhood friend of mine was in town just for the weekend to attend to some business.  I had previously made plans for the night,  but at the last-minute, I canceled them knowing I could catch up with those friends again soon. I hadn’t seen my childhood friend in several years and knew that if I didn’t take this chance, it might be several more years before we might meet again. Within minutes of talking to each other, we decided to meet close to where he was staying for the weekend. For the next hour, we caught up on missed years,  reminisced, and shared a few laughs. It was one of those friend moments, where, no matter how many years you’ve been apart, you can still start back in a familiar spot. And we were both so glad that luck crossed our paths and we were able to meet.

So yes,  changing myself to do things more spur of the moment was one of the wisest improvements I made to my life this year.

What wisdom do you have to share?

After reading my story, what would you have done if you were in my shoes?
